Risk Management in Pesticide Use

AusChem WA’s accreditation course assists participants to identify hazards in chemical use and to put in place risk controls.  This is an AQTF Level 3 course designed for people who will be spraying WITHOUT supervision.

There are two versions of Risk Management in Pesticide Use -

  • for growers producing food and fibre, and
  • for workers with Shires, DEC, mine-site rehabilitation etc who are primarily involved in weed management.

Emphasis in both programmes is on sustainable environmental practices, health of chemical users, resistance, practical procedures for chemical use tasks, regulatory requirements and record keeping.  However, in the individual programmes information is tailored to the particular chemical issues, selection, application methods and equipment used.

Competency-based course
Both courses cover competencies contained within Australian National Training Framework Training Packages.

  • AHCCHM303 Prepare and apply chemicals
  • AHCCHM304 Transport, handle and store chemicals

Designed to amass evidence of the participant’s knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to the competencies. Assessment techniques include written questionnaires, self assessment, structured activities.

Resource Manual
Comprehensive manual as a valuable take-home reference.

Competent participants receive a Statement of Attainment from the participating Registered Training Organisation and an identifying ID card from AusChem WA showing their accreditation number and accreditation expiry date.

AusChem Accreditation
AusChem WA policy requires that accreditation be valid for a period of 5 years. It is then necessary to renew the accreditation which will be then valid for a further 5 years. AusChem WA's reaccreditation courses complete the requirement for renewal of the accreditation. Chemical users who have let their accreditation lapse for over 10 years are not eligible to attend reaccreditation programmes and will need to re-take Risk Management in Pesticide Use.
